How could we ignore a local Beer Festival! After much moaning in regard to the diminishing number of local pubs we were presented with this. It was an opportunity that couldn’t be missed. Bacon and sausage sarnies supplied by Ian provided the necessary stomach lining after which we set off in an undersized cab…Steve still has the bump on his head.
There were about 15 beers on although for us there were just seven of interest namely those from Brentwood Brewing Company – Marvellous Maple Mild, Brentwood Blonde, Brentwood Gold, Lumberjack and White Elephant from the brewery’s offspring, Elephant School Brewing. In support were Rayleigh Mills Reserve IPA and Greene King Molecule of Life.
Top beer of the day was Greene King Molecule of Life (3.8%). A bitter whose creaminess delivers a dominant vanilla flavour with a touch of caramel. After a burger and a hot dog think vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce.
This was a first for the Community Association and a great effort in providing a local oasis albeit a pint size one. We certainly hope it comes back next year and will give it our full support.
After fours we were quite content to leave with souvenir beer glass tucked away and lobster red tans on full display…not bad for a £2 entry and all proceeds going to St. Francis Hospice.
